Thank you for coming parent -teacher conferences last week. Please continue to encourage your child to read 20 minutes each night and work on their math facts.
Remember to have your child log into MobyMax.com/signin with their lunch number and password is : paws123 . School code is ga2753 or type in Powers Ferry. Make sure to login under student. This way they can practice reading, language, phonics and math skills at home.
This month has been busy and the students are working hard. We have started the 2nd quarter.
This month we are learning about:
Reading: * How to make connections with historical events, series of scientific steps or technical procedurals. * Asking and answering questions about information ( who, what, where, when , why and how)
Math:* Word problems- middle and start unknown ( 6 + ____ = 10 and ____ + 4 = 10) and *2 step word problems ( 10-5 + 8 = _____ -> 1st step 10-5= 5, 2nd step 5+ 8= 13). Please look at the guide I passed out at conferences to better understand word problems.
*Adding and subtraction numbers to 1000 and using the number line.
Social Studies- Historical figures important to Georgia: *Sequoyah, *James Oglethorpe, *Tomochichi and* Mary Musgrove.
Language- *capitalization and *root words with suffixes.
Writing- we are learning how to write informational writing using our historical figures.
Awards Day is Wednesday , October 24. If your child is getting an award, you would receive an invitation during conference week.
Author Visit is Friday, October 26. Gail Karwoski is the author coming to our school.
